The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus #1)

author: Rick Riordan
published: October 12th 2010 by Disney-Hyperion Books
pages: 557
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Jason has a problem.
He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper, and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?
Piper has a secret.
Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare about his being in trouble. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits during the school trip, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.
Leo has a way with tools.
When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about, and some camper who;s gone missing. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god. Does this have anything to do with Jason's amnesia, or the fact that Leo keeps seeing ghosts?

This is the first book in the series and it takes place after Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian.
The start immediately drew me in, it's captivating from the start.

The main character Jason wakes up in a bus without any memory of who he is and how he got there. Soon after that he and his friends Leo and Piper get thrust into the world of gods, demigods, monsters and lots of familiar faces from Percy Jackson.
As already mentioned the main characters in this book weren't around in Percy Jackson and they all have their own problems, secrets and backstories to deal with. I liked all of them from the start and that didn't change throughout.
Jason is the main character but the other two also play a huge part. I especially like Leo, his humor is amazing. But every time I thought I had a favorite character that would change so really I loved all of them.

With new characters come new godly parents and it was really great to get a closer look at the cabins and gods that weren't as important before.
Many characters from the previous books make an appearance and I was so happy to see Annabeth once again.

This book wouldn't be a Rick Riordan book if it didn't feature a big quest. As expected they encounter lots of dangers especially monsters, have next to no lead and a time limit.

Everything about it was epic and even after rereading it for probably the third time or so I still love it.
